Before many workplace issues can be effectively resolved, a thorough investigation is fundamental to the process. Examples include disciplinary and grievances as well as accidents.
The task of conducting an investigation is very often devolved to a junior manager, someone who is often inexperienced and untrained in the techniques of effective interviewing, or fact finding, both of which are crucial to reaching a successful conclusion.
The practical content entails an innovative approach where delegates, working as a team, are presented with an in-depth case study that challenges them to conduct an investigation and for findings to be analysed, and to produce a recommendation for action.
We recognise that investigations are not simply a matter of asking straight-forward questions and fielding straight forward responses that can be taken as gospel The harsh reality is that people involved in an investigation may have issues they wish to conceal and the skill of the investigator relies upon his/her interviewing technique and subsequent analysis of information gathered.
To provide a realistic environment for learning, Peak Practice deploy their team of professional actors who assume various characters and they interact with the delegates in role play simulations during the information gathering process.
By the end of the workshop delegates will:
1. Understand the importance of effective and thorough investigation
2. Appreciate the differing sources and methods for obtaining information
3. Understand the need to plan for interviews
4. Learn the importance of active listening and the benefits of interpreting body language
5. Understand the need for analysing information and critically challenging its veracity
