Course Content -Improving the Under Performer

"Everybone has the potential to perform better" - Myles Downey, Director of Studies, School of Coaching London

Programme Overview:

Most managers can recognise a situation that merits taking decisive disciplinary action, e.g. a serious breach of health & safety, or where the attendance levels have become unacceptable.

However sub-standard performance, whereby individuals performance is below the acceptable level, is far more common and more frequently ignored. The result is that the performance impacts upon the effectiveness and morale of the team and wider organisation, leading to mediocrity.

Every manager would love to oversee a team of stars but they rarely have this luxury. However, with the right skill set and an attitude towards making a real difference, they can certainly improve the performance of the team they supervise.

As with all our programmes the workshop has a high practical flavour that requires delegates to participate in role play simulations that hone leadership and managerial competencies that can readily be transferred back to the work environment.

By the end of the programme delegates will:

  • Appreciate the difference between disciplinary issues and those related to capability
  • Understand the impact that sub performance has upon the business and individual teams
  • Accept it is their responsibility to take decisive action
  • Learn the value of 'nipping in the bud' issues before they become major problems
  • Become familiar with company policies and procedures and create awareness of current legislation
  • Be more confident about tackling performance issues and solving them promptly and efficiently

Delegates will, during the workshop, develop their personal competencies in the areas of:

  • Communication
  • Assertiveness
  • Appraisal and analysis
  • Planning and preparation
  • Interviewing technique
  • Decision making
